'Do the right thing' - Actor appeals to comedian on Oscars boycott
Gibson is not the first celebrity to ask this of the veteran
comedian since the Oscars boycott began following actress, Jada
Pinkett's call for it, which has long gone viral and gathered momentum
over time.
Hollywood actor and singer, Tyrese Gibson, has made his stand clear as pertains to the Oscars boycott, going on to plead with the host for the Awards, comedian, Chris Rock, to step down from hosting the event.
Gibson is not the first celebrity to ask this of the veteran comedian since the Oscars boycott began following actress, Jada Pinkett's call for it, which has long gone viral and gathered momentum over time.
Rapper, 50 Cent, had also appealed to the comic actor, via instagram saying:
"Chris, please do not do the Oscars Awards. You mean a lot man, don't do it. Please."
Following a long rant Gibson had posted via Instagram, the Fast and Furious alum, shared a photo of Chris Rock, commenting:
"Chris
Rock do the right thing make a statement - were relying on you to DO
the right thing..... There is NO JOKE YOU CAN CRACK TO EVER CHANGE THE
WAY WE ALL FEEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
As if to
buttress his point, Gibson had taken to Facebook on Wednesday, January
20, to speak on the issue as he compared Chris Rock role as the Host for
this year's Oscars to an imagined situation where Bravo's Andy Cohen
host the awards in a year that LGBTQ nominees are shut out of the
awards.
"If Andy Cohen of #WWHL or Ellen were
hosting the Oscars and they purposely left out all gays and or
homosexuals from being nominated for an #Oscar THEY would of stepped
down already..... This is a #fact click on the link in my IG BIO now
we're talking more about this!!!! For the record...... I HATE that this
is all happening on the year that Leonardo DiCaprio is gonna win his
first Oscar for BEST ACTOR...... Leo looooooveeessssss black
people!!!!!! Leo in my homie!!!!!"
Gibson also re-posted Spike Lee and Pinkett Smith's messages from earlier in the week, telling the actress, "I stand with you," following her announcement that she would boycott the awards.
Chris Rock is yet to respond to any of the appeals on boycotting the awards.
