Teacher’s education our top priority – Yabatech Rector
The Rector, Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Dr. Margaret
Ladipo has pledged that teacher’s education shall remain high priority
in the College planning and development.
Addressing matriculating 100 and 200 levels degree students of the
School of Technical Education (STE) run in affiliation with the
University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, Ladipo assured the matriculating
students that the College will continue to provide conducive learning
environment for its students.
Yabatech-Rector, Dr. Margaret Ladipo
She said, “We have a commitment to equip you with the requisite
skills and competencies that would empower you to contribute your quota
to the development efforts of this country.
“We do expect maximum cooperation from you as students to enable us
accomplish the set objectives for which the STE was established.”
The rector charged the matriculants to consider themselves fortunate
for the dual opportunity of undergoing their programmes at the first
indigenous university in Nigeria, UNN, Nsukka in collaboration with the
cradle of higher learning in Nigeria, Yabatech.
“Our security network has been further enhanced to tackle the menace
of cultism and other social vices coupled with our added leverage in
skills development through our flexible skills development potentials.”
Speaking in same vein, the Vice Chancellor, UNN, Prof Benjamin Ozumba
charged the matriculants to guard against situations that allow the
society to situate them as negative personalities.
“One of the major results of the stimulation of your intellectual
life that occurs in the College is the shrinking of your spiritual life.
Sometimes, students get so confused with reconciling their classroom
activities with the clashing of so many faiths that their spiritual live
begins to weaken tremendously.”
Ozumba, who was represented by the UNN Coordinator of Affiliation
Programmes, Dr. Joshua Umeifekwem, warned the matriculants not to get
entangled with perceived intellectual possession, or the acquisition of
sudden freedom to weaken their moral upbringing.
He charged them to be conversant with Yabatech Student Handbook to
keep them abreast of the guidelines on academic matters and their
conduct as students.he
The programme was attended by officials from the two institutions
including the Yabatech Deputy Rector (ACAD), Mr. Innocent Akhuemonkhan,
the Registrar, Ms. Biekoroma Amakapabo, her UNN counterpart represented
byMrs. Empress Okoro, the College Librarian, Mrs. Taye Adebowale, and
Dean, STE., Mrs. H. A. Akanbi among others.
